Mr Blank (Virtual Stage Version)

City Contemporary Dance Company

“Anxiety and helplessness erupt from the intensity of the dancers’ movements... is a visual and auditory onslaught.”
— Vicky Yang, dance journal/hk

Between elusive traces in an enclosed space, every Mr Blank ponders, assembles and searches for his truth; between fragmented memories on the screens, a story is waiting to be discovered by you.

Co-created by City Contemporary Dance Company resident choreographer Sang Jijia and award-winning playwright Janice Poon, the virtual stage version of Mr Blank is a dance performance that boldly echoes the social distance.  On the indistinct "walls" in an enclosed space, the audience glimpses the story of every Mr Blank, unravelling between fleeting fragments, hidden recollections and the waves of memories.

The live performance is captured on video cameras set up on the stage, which lights up the dancers’ movements from shifting angles and challenges the audience’s perspectives.  The crossing between contemporary dance and technology reveals intricate connections between the physical venue and the virtual world, evoking the tension between seeing and being seen.
