Convergence is a culminating work created through an interdisciplinary research study on both Chinese dance and Chinese martial arts traditions. Yang Yuntao, the Artistic Director, alongside a group of dancers, collaborated with kung fu masters from the Southern style for three years between 2018 and 2020. The partnership has yielded deep awareness of the essence of Chinese martial arts, which has been adapted by the research team to enhance understanding of the relationship between the sensorial body, the fluidity of movement it creates, and the philosophies of the East in the creation and performance of dance. Augmented with specially crafted digital art, Convergence brings together traditional cultures and contemporary visual aesthetics. Convergence made its online debut in 2020 to great critical acclaim.
