Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou Concluded Successfully
Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), has successfully concluded. Under the theme of "Traverse Stage│Screen", it has brought to the audiences in Guangzhou and Hong Kong a series of programmes in a hybrid of in-venue and online format, covering performing arts and film screenings, exhibitions and extension activities.
The view rate of online programmes has exceeded 1.8 million by the end of May, and the programmes will be available till August for more mainland viewers to enjoy. Meanwhile, some of them have also been uploaded onto the LCSD Edutainment Channel. Click here to watch for free now!
In future, the LCSD will continue to promote cultural exchange opportunities for local artists and arts groups as well as the "Hong Kong Week" brand to other mainland and overseas cities.

The pandemic does not obstruct the sharing of music. Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Bel Canto Singers screened Spring River and Ambush, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra & Lio Kuokman │ Tan Dun & Sibelius and When Mozart Meets Da Ponte at the Chamber Music Hall, Xinghai Concert Hall last weekend to share the joy of music with Guangzhou citizens.

A Showcase of Classics – Music
This week is an exciting time for lovers of classical music. With Resident Conductor Lio Kuokman at the helm, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra performs the works of celebrated Chinese composer Tan Dun, Finland’s musical father Jean Sibelius, and American master Charles Ives. Under the baton of Artistic Conductor Yan Huichang, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra presents a musical feast which features well-loved compositions from different eras.
Both these two programmes have their in-venue screenings at the Chamber Music Hall, Xinghai Concert Hall on 22- 23 May at 2pm and 3:30pm respectively, and premiere online screenings on Tencent Art at 7:30pm on 22 and 23 May respectively. The online screenings are available for three months from the release date and can be viewed unlimitedly for one month after purchase.
A fusion of classical opera, pop, rock, jazz and a cappella by Bel Canto Singers, When Mozart Meets Da Ponte will be screened at the Chamber Music Hall, Xinghai Concert Hall, at 10:30am on 22-23 May.

Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou on the Spot (2)
Hong Kong Repertory Theatre and Chung Ying Theatre Company screened A Winter Funeral and Pride and Prejudice at the Experimental Theatre of Guangzhou Opera House last weekend. Art critic Yang Xiaoluan enjoyed the screenings and hosted one meet-the-artist session after the screening of Pride and Prejudice, where the Artistic Director Dominic Cheung and actress Belinda Chan shared their insights with the audience. A splendid array of exciting showcases
Hong Kong Week presents an impressive line-up of programmes over the next two weeks. Mark your favourite programmes on your calendar and enjoy the shows!
Theatre lovers have much to look forward to this week, as the two Hong Kong theatre companies bring two captivating works of different styles to the stage. Pride and Prejudice by Chung Ying Theatre Company premieres at 7:30pm on 15 May. The drama transposes the setting in the classic of English literature, Pride and Prejudice, to Hong Kong in the 1950s, and tells a romantic love story set in a city where East meets West. A Winter Funeral by Hong Kong Repertory Theatre premieres at 7:30pm on 16 May. A timeless classic by Israeli master Hanoch Levin, the drama sheds light on universal emotions in an absurdist and humorous interpretation.
Two in-venue exhibitions which are currently open, “Art><Creativity” Exhibition Series in the Greater Bay Area—Mindscape Beyond the Landscape (open until 15 May) and “Light in Motion” Photo Exhibition of Hong Kong Movie 2021 (open until 23 May), are also not to be missed!

Tracing the Pulse of Pop Music
After HK POP 2.021 kicked off with “My Main Stage and VSing” last week, “Every Life Is A Song” brings on the second wave of new forces in Hong Kong pop music this week. Pulsating with the sensitivity and vitality of youth, the programme lights up the spirits of the times in a poetic expression. Roaming the bustling streets and along the tramlines, the music video tells the life stories of ten Hong Kong people in ten original songs. The programme premieres at 7:30pm on 8 May, and will be available for free viewing for three months on Tencent Art for Hong Kong and mainland audiences. The programme will also be uploaded to the LCSD Edutainment Channel.
To offer deeper glimpses into the world of these emerging Hong Kong musicians, Hong Kong media outlet HK01 did an in-depth feature on the artists. Artistic curators Chiu Tsang-hei, Vicky Fung and Chow Yiu-fai talk about their search for new talent for Hong Kong music with the “My Main Stage” and “Every Life Is A Song”, and the creative concepts of the two HK POP 2.021 programmes. The young musicians also share their insights in the interview, where they talk about themselves, music, and their quest to create new trends in Cantopop. This week’s line-up also includes Dot/line/plane@SuperBaby by Jumbo Kids Theatre, a performance that brings sensory stimulation and inspires children’s creativity and imagination. The New Waves of Hong Kong's Music Scene
Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou presents two exciting online music programmes from HK POP 2.021 in the coming two weeks, which are available for free viewing for the Mainland and Hong Kong audiences.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, HK POP 2.021 is a platform that showcases new forces in the Hong Kong music scene. Three renowned Hong Kong icons, namely music producer Chiu Tsang-hei and Vicky Fung as well as lyricist Chow Yiu-fai, have been devoted to grooming and nurturing young musicians. In this programme, we will meet a group of outstanding young talents who pursue their musical dreams, as they share stories about their lives and Hong Kong people through their songs.
HK POP 2.021: My Main Stage and VSing, which premieres on 1 May at 7:30 pm, is curated by Chiu Tsang-hei. In this concert, young musicians from the “My Main Stage” Music Production Programme will team up with VSing, a prominent a cappella group from Hong Kong. HK POP 2.021: Every Life is A Song, which premieres on 8 May at 7:30 pm, is curated by Vicky Fung and Chow Yiu-fai. The concert spotlights ten life stories in ten music originals.
The two programmes are available for free streaming on Tencent Art for audiences in the Mainland and Hong Kong. The programmes will also be uploaded to the LCSD Edutainment Channel. Let’s share the passion of our Hong Kong musicians.

Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou on the Spot
City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) screened Mr Blank (Virtual Stage Version) at the Experimental Theatre of Guangzhou Opera House last weekend. Sang Jijia, choreographer of Mr Blank and CCDC Resident Choreographer, hosted two creative workshops and one meet-the-artist session in Guangzhou, where he shared his insights with dance majors, arts practitioners and the audience.






“Light in Motion” Photo Exhibition of Hong Kong Movie 2021 opened last Saturday at Yan Ji You (Guangzhou K11 Flagship Store). The exhibition features two outstanding Hong Kong photographers, Lo Yuk-ying and Quist Tsang, whose works capture the fervent passion and vitality of Hong Kong movies from the 1980s to the present. Here Comes the "Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou" Second Wave
Entering its second week, Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou presents another work of visual and auditory brilliance to dance lovers—Mr Blank (Virtual Stage Version) by City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC). The stage design echoes social distance during the pandemic and inspires a deep resonance in the audience. The programme has its premiere screening at the Experimental Theatre of Guangzhou Opera House and on Tencent Art simultaneously on 25 April. The online programme is available for three months from the release date and can be viewed unlimitedly for one month after purchase.
Sang Jijia, choreographer of Mr Blank and CCDC Resident Choreographer, will host two in-venue creative workshops in Guangzhou, where he will share his insights about nurturing one’s creative drive and thinking with dance majors and arts practitioners from different disciplines. Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou Opens Today!
Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou opens today with the screening of Hong Kong Ballet’s ALICE (in wonderland) at the Experimental Theatre of Guangzhou Opera House, with live accompaniment by Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, bringing to the audience a brand new viewing experience with colourful images and vibrant rhythm. Another in-venue event which also opens today till 17 May is the exhibition “Art›‹Creativity” Exhibition Series in the Greater Bay Area—Mindscape Beyond the Landscape, co-organised by the Art Promotion Office and the Hong Kong Designers Association, at Guangzhou International Grand City. In this exhibition, the visitors seem to be strolling along the soulful paths paved by nature the moment they enter the realms created by artist Danny Lee Chin-fai and designer Chris Cheung Hon-him.
For the online programmes, Online Guided Tour to “Lost and Sound: Hong Kong Festivals and Traditional Craftmanship” Exhibition, together with Hong Kong Ballet’s ALICE (in wonderland), will be available on Tencent Art from now for three months. Additionally, a special online opening programme has been filmed to celebrate the opening of Hong Kong Week 2021@Guangzhou.
