Echoes Across Project by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Sichuan Conservatory of Music

Hong Kong-born Yiu Song-lam is a distinguished oboist active as a performer, educator, and entrepreneur. He currently serves as Associate Dean and Head of Winds, Brass and Percussion at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. An awardee of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship, Yiu pursued advanced studies at the Queensland Conservatorium in Australia, the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Rotterdam Conservatorium in the Netherlands, and the Cologne University of Music and Dance in Germany.

Yiu has also served as Artist-in-Residence at the Education University of Hong Kong and Radio Television Hong Kong, and as Oboe At-large Director of the International Double Reed Society. He has given masterclasses at leading institutions across Asia and Europe and performed at festivals worldwide, including the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields under Sir Neville Marriner and the London Virtuosi on their Spain tour. Frequently invited as an adjudicator, he has served at the Muri Competition, IDRS International Oboe Competitions, Concours de Musique de Chambre in Lyon, and the Concours de Genève in 2021. His students have earned significant awards and hold key positions in leading orchestras across Europe and Asia.

Yiu was the Chairperson of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Awardees Association and visiting professor at the Shanghai Conservatory. As a visiting Professor at South China Normal University, Yiu was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) in recognition of his contributions to the profession.

Pianist Yury Shadrin has performed as a soloist and recitalist in distinguished venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Boulez Saal, and Russia's Mariinsky Theatre. His recent engagements include performances at Konzerthaus Berlin, Beethoven-Haus Bonn, and Harvard University, as well as performances at the Gilmore Festival, the Steinway Series at Silo Hill, and residencies at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent and London's Royal College of Music. By invitation from Daniel Barenboim, he performed with the Staatskapelle Berlin during its 450th season, and Sir András Schiff invited him to present recitals across major halls in Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland.

As an orchestral soloist, Mr. Shadrin has collaborated with ensembles such as the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Philippines Philharmonic, and Vietnam National Philharmonic, among others. His recital appearances include Washington Performing Arts and the Mariinsky Stars of the White Nights Festival alongside the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. A first-prize winner of the Rome International Piano Competition and Grand Prize recipient at the Siberian Piano Competition, he has earned international recognition for his artistry. In addition to his performance career, Mr. Shadrin is a dedicated educator, previously served as Artistic Director of the Leon Fleisher Academy.

Hong Kong‑born conductor, trumpet performer and pedagogue, Fung has been a Yamaha Artist since 2013 and has served as principal trumpet with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, and as guest principal with the Taiwan Philharmonic and Macao Orchestra. As a soloist he has appeared with ensembles such as the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Taichung Philharmonic Wind Ensemble and The Hong Kong Symphonic Winds. As a conductor he has been Associate Music Director of the Hong Kong Symphonic Winds since 2011 and has frequently collaborated with the HKSW Symphony Orchestra, The Symphonic Pops and the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra. He joined HKAPA in 2023 and also serves as conductor of the Academy Concert Band.
